Meet Daunte Beal.
A continuing journey through music, fitness, and community.
Today, Daunte Beal—known as Dae Heat—is a musician, personal trainer, and active member of the nuumusic community. His life includes creating music, supporting others through fitness, and helping emerging creatives find their place.

The history behind the journey
In April 2011, Daunte Beal was sentenced to 14 to 15 years in prison, according to reporting by the Boston Herald. During his incarceration, music became a point of connection with nuumusic—a relationship that continued after his release.

A creative connection during incarceration
Nuumusic’s relationship with Daunte began while he was incarcerated. After learning about our work, he reached out with the hope of collaborating on music.
Working together required a different approach to recording. Our team provided a metronome over the telephone while Daunte performed his vocals. We recorded those performances and later synchronized them with instrumental backing tracks. Through that process, we completed an entire music project together.
The collaboration required patience, technical problem-solving, and a shared commitment to making the work possible. For Daunte, it provided a way to develop his music and maintain a creative connection beyond the prison walls.
Support that continued after release
After Daunte returned home, nuumusic continued working with him. We provided training in music production, audio engineering, and Pro Tools recording and editing techniques. Donated studio equipment helped him build a small home studio, giving him the tools to record and develop his music independently.
Our connection continued beyond those sessions. Daunte remains an active member of nuumusic, contributing to community engagement, welcoming new members, and supporting their creative development.
Music and fitness in his life today
As Dae Heat, Daunte draws on his experiences to create music and share his perspective. His artist website describes a commitment to storytelling shaped by the approximately 15 years he spent incarcerated and his life afterward.
Alongside music, physical fitness has become another important part of his work. Daunte works with InnerCity Weightlifting, an organization that supports people affected by systemic racism and incarceration through community relationships and career opportunities in and beyond personal training.
His work brings together two passions: music as a means of expression and fitness as a way to connect with and support others. He continues to record, perform, and share his story, including through travel across the country.
An ongoing relationship
Daunte’s progress reflects his own effort and the relationships he has built. Nuumusic’s part in that journey has been practical: collaborating on music, sharing technical knowledge, providing equipment, and maintaining a welcoming creative community.
His experience reinforces why our commitment continues after release. Access to tools, training, and people who remain involved can help someone pursue meaningful work and develop a sense of belonging.
We are proud to continue working alongside Daunte—as an artist, a collaborator, and a member who now helps others develop their own potential.
